ALLBÄCK WINDOWCRAFT

Old and new techniques in combination

Windowcraft is an innovative organisational form developed by us in the years 1982-83. We have specialised in the development of methods, tools and materials for the restoration, careful renovation and maintenance of windows and doors from various periods of time.

Traditional craftsmanship and materials are combined with modern machines and methods with the goal of reusing older construction materials, paying regard to durability, function, culture, environment and economy.

Every window is treated as a whole and is treated by a specially-trained craftsman with access to a specially-equipped workshop. This is regardless of whether the restoration calls for carpentry, glazing, painting, metal working or the skills of a bricklayer/plasterer.

This holistic view has resulted in the development of a new profession – that of windowcraft. In 1985 we started a training programme for this profession.

A windowcraftsman is a carpenter, glazier, painter, smith and bricklayer/plasterer all rolled into one. He or she has mastered the knowledge of the interplay between the various materials in a window – wood, glass, paint, putty, fittings and plaster, and assumes responsibility for the end result.

This new organisational form, removes all earlier technical and financial limitations for the renovation and maintenance of windows. The parts create the whole!
